Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) - Movie Review
I first saw it at the Marriot in Boston for one of those rip-off $10.95 deals, but it turned out to not be that bad of a deal. Austin Powers is surprisingly hilarious with great jokes and a great concept. It spoofs James Bond a dozen times over with a slapstick theme. It's non-stop comedy with joke after joke after joke (such as the scene where he goes to the bathroom for what seems like five minutes straight).
The two stars are Mike Myers and Elizabeth Hurley, although there are three characters. Myers plays both the lovable, cuddly, but insanely ugly Austin Powers and Dr. Evil, the bald bad guy of the film who steals the show. Elizabeth Hurley stars as Austin's beautiful and sexy sidekick, but looks aren't anything. She kicks some serious butt.
At first, I didn't like the Fembots, but they, like the rest of the movie, grows on you. Even after seeing it for twenty times, it still is funny, and if you ever find a person who hasn't seen it, it gives you a chance to watch it again. Austin Powers is a classic that will be remembered for a long time.
