The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - Movie Review
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is, of course, a remake of the low-budget 1974 film of the same name that awed audiences by its realistic "depiction" of what is supposedly a true story. The acting wasn't anything special, but its gritty look and disturbing story made it truly creepy. This new Massacre is not nearly as gritty, but is just as disturbing, just as gory and just as suspenseful as the original; best of all, its story veers far enough away from that of the original to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The thing most going for the movie is that it is supposedly based on a true story. The beginning and end of the movie make it seem as though it is fairly accurate, too. In actuality, most of this movie is pure fiction. The real murders happened in Wisconsin and were done by a man named Ed Gein, who kept his victims' bodies cut up in his house. There was no psychotic family and no chainsaw. Luckily, with this movie, it really doesn't matter, because it is one of the best horror movies to have come out in years.
Jessica Biel stars as Erin, the heroine who survives meat hooks, knives, guns and chainsaws... well, she may survive. Biel does a tremendous job as the scream queen, and probably is about as believable as any horror star to date. The rest of the cast is and is not worth mentioning; they all do a great job and are far above that of any kind of B-grade cast - of course, most of them end up on the cutting room floor, literally. One takes an axe to his spine, another dies slowly on a meat hook, and a few others lie victim to the chainsaw. There's some good gore, to say the least.
Best of all, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has a believable (well, as horror movies go) story that is also different from the original. There are a lot of things that are similar to the original, but the course of the story is quite different. The events surrounding the hitchhiker in the beginning of the movie are quite different from those that happened in the original, as are other plot turns. The differences really make this new Massacre its own film, and it deserves to be.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a scary, creepy and suspenseful horror movie that does not lose pace from beginning to end. The last half an hour keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and the person sitting next to you may use your arm as a scratching post. While the family is not quite as disturbing as the one in the original movie, they are just as violent. Leatherface is just as menacing, if not more, and this movie delves deeper into his identity (he gets three different looks in this movie, if you get my meaning).
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has very few flaws, if any. Perhaps the classic did not need to be remade, but a new classic has been born anyway; this is one of the scariest movies to hit theaters in a long time.

February 15, 2007Im sitting here in shock to hear so many of you lamebrains saying this movie is good. First off I understand that it is BASED on a true story, however they have modified it from the original story a shitload. First off im not particualrily a horror movie fan but as I did enjoy the original texas chainsaw massacre I thought hey probably the new one will be better, WRONG! Not only was it a pile of shit it was a steaming pile of shit. What I want to understand from all you horror buffs out there dont you get sick of the same scenario spewed out again and again and again in about 95% of horror movies released. I mean it always starts off with between 3 - 6 clueless teenagers always having a great time the first 15 mins of the movie. And you think to yourself how could this possibly be a horror movie they're in such high spirits blah blah blah.... but same old shit happens. A car breaks down or petrol runs out they inevitably get lost in some outback shithole town where everyone is inbred and weird, and supprisingly in this movie alarm bells didnt ring in their heads when they went to use a phone far out in the middle of nowhere (due to their car breaking down, supprise supprise) where a derranged looking fuck up who lived in the house answers the door in a weel chair and no legs. With those naked dolls swinging in the distant background in one of the rooms in his house which ive forgot the name of but I do know it starts with 'M'. Anyway you should know kindly make your excuses and get the fuck out of there if thats what you see. Im telling you the only difference between this movie and wax house is one has a chainsaw in it and the other has wax involved. Thats it! But I guess if your 14 years old and get a hardon when you see all this gore when really what you should be doing at 14 is jacking off in all the spare time you have then this is the one for you! Anyway make of this what you will but all I gotta say if you like this movie then I predict you have an IQ under 90... Enjoy!

July 10, 2004first off i loved this movie. And it has become my most favorite movie. I watch it every chance i get! I love it. I can't get enough of it! When i first heard about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, i loved the title and was fascinated by it. And whast funny is I never knew there was and original or had any idea that this was a remake! Giving that i am 15 years old i was not around yet when the original came out. But anyway when i first heard about the movie I thought it sounded excellent. And i was extatic to hear that Jessica Biel was going to be apart of this movie. I was already a big fan of hers and this movie was like a dream come true. Also i was happy to learn that Mike Vogel was going to be apart of this movie. Because i am also a huge san of his. Jessica Biel and Mike Vogel are my to favorite actors. I mean, She's hot he is cool...wats not to like. I wouldn't actually give this movie an A......I would give it an A+ and 10/10. Damn good Movie here. I think everyone should own this movie! I know I do!

June 19, 2004Wow, it's freaky how this is a true story and how they never caught the guy yet. He could be anywhere. He might even be dead. Anyways I thought this story was so sad! Thomas was just a little kid when everyone started picking on him because of his skin disease. Then people drove him mad and crazy. If the kids wouldn't have teased poor Thomas than the massacre wouldn't have happend. I feel sorry for Thomas and the people who had to go through all of the pain Thomas put them through. If only people treated Thomas with respect he would show the same for other people.
I thought the movie was awesome. It felt so real. Plus the actors/actresses were so great. Especially Jessica Biel and Andrew Bryniarski. It's freaky how they show the real footage and the real guy but i still thought it was great.
