What Dreams May Come tells the story of a man's love for his wife, and the extent of what he will do to keep them together. In what could be one of the most original movies of the decade, both in setting and visuals, What Dreams May Come is an extraordinary adventure.

This is one of Robin William's strongest and most brilliant performances, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. is sure to captivate. The sheer reality in an unreal world is stunning, and the two star actors in the leading roles help bring it to "life." Williams is strong and commanding, and his ability to work with emotions is excellent. Gooding, Jr. is the uncertain know-all, who by the end realizes that anything can happen.

But this movie wouldn't be without the incredible art direction and stunning visuals. Throughout its entirety, What Dreams May Come had impressive camera angles, emotional shots, and a series of flashbacks that adds feeling to the movie. When Williams goes to Heaven, the world is made of paint, and he is living inside a landscape painting made by his wife. And even when he leaves the painting and goes to the "City of Heaven," it is breathtaking to say the least. What Dreams May Come delivers just one of many interpretations of Heaven.

And then comes Hell. Hell is equally impressive, and the portrayal of lost souls is breathtaking. The burning buildings and gray bodies huddled together is sensational, and incredibly creepy.

What Dreams May Come is an original and artsy piece of work, and should not be missed no matter what.

I saw this movie in 1998; everything is great in this movie. It wasn’t what I expected, if you expect a drama film there is more to it than that. It starts with a tragic beginning, your emotions are stretched to the limit, your will be asking yourself your beliefs in death and after life. This gives us hope that there is life after death and it can be as wonderful as we want it to be or the other way around, depending on how we live our life on earth or how clean your soul/ spirit is. Mainly teaches us the LOVE is all, and can reach out through any boundaries

First of all, this isn't a science fiction movie. This is spiritual movie, since it combines aspects of different religious views of the afterlife. This is one of the few movies that I've seen in which every character dies, and the main character is dead for the majority of the movie. This is a highly emotional movie, and it makes one ponder different possibilities about life and death. The art was great. It seemed obvious that the hell scenes were inspired by the work of Hieronymous Bosch. I'm somewhat confident in this since there was a Bosch print hanging over the couple's bed in the film.
