Wild Things (1998) - Movie Review

Surprised. That is the word that I use to describe this movie. I thought Wild Things was just going to be a sexy movie with a couple hot girls who sleep around and take off their bikinis, but it is so much more than that. This is a real beach-style Hitchcock-type movie (or as a user on the IMDb so superbly said, "Alfred Hitchcock 90210").

Matt Dillon stars as school counselor Sam Lombardo who is accused of sexually assaulting two of his students. The two girls are played by the sexy Denise Richards (Starship Troopers, James Bond: The World is Not Enough) and Neve Campbell (The Scream Trilogy, "Party of Five"), and Kevin Bacon plays the suspicious cop. Surprisingly, the acting in Wild Things is incredibly good, especially from the two girls, and the story is pretty well-done as well.

The movie starts slow but as soon as the trial begins, things pick up pace. Twist after twist after twist come, and they keep on coming until after - yes, after - the credits at the end of the movie. Wild Things reaches a point of total paranoia where none of the characters trust each other, and where you don't know who is going to make it out at the end.

The movie is not that hard to understand by the finale, but just to clear some things up, Wild Things actually inserts clips further detailing the scandal between each page of the credits. It shows how some things were done and further progressions in the scandal, and while in some movies, these scenes would just seem to stupidify the movie, they do no such thing here.

Wild Things is a worthy addition to my list of favorites. It's sexy, has sexy girls, and has a redeeming story that makes a good excuse for watching the sexy girls. The only downside was the "no-blur" filming technique that has creeped in in a couple of movies (The Juror, for example) that made Wild Things look a little weird. But content wise, this was one cool movie. Or hot movie.

This movie is lonely because people have neglected it and not written kind things about it. Please help this movie feel better about itself and write a comment or review now.
