Clerks II (2006) - Movie Review
Clerks II is the follow-up to the film that put Smith on the map way back in black-and-white 1994. It isn't meant to be high class drama, and it isn't meant to be an immensely deep comedy. It is meant to be Clerks II, and it does exactly what Smith intended it to be: better than the first one. Admittedly, out of all of Smith's movies, the original Clerks is my least favorite, perhaps because he wasn't "refined" at the time, or simply because I saw it after I saw Dogma, Chasing Amy and Mallrats (my favorite). Still, Clerks II is one of his best films, as it manages to make a romantic comedy truly edgy.
After all, how many directors can pull off a movie about a loser fast food clerk who is moving to Florida with his fiancé the next morning but who is in love with his hot fast food manager who is pregnant with his baby, all while taking time to deliver such antics as a debate about Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings, show us a donkey show and make various jokes about Christians? Kevin Smith is the man!
If you like Kevin Smith movies, you'll love Clerks II. If you don't, then you won't. Simple.

February 9, 2007The A- movies review that is posted for this movie should not be trusted. I am a big fan of the Kevin Smith movies, but this movie was just not good. Kevin Smith movies are supposed to be clever. Though this movie had a few clever dialogues, majority of the movie was utterly crude. The movie goes up and down almost trying to decide if it wants to be a comedy, gross out flick, or a drama. I dont recommend even renting this movie. Maybe borrow it from a friend if you want to waste a tuesday night. (C-)
