You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) - Movie Review
You Don't Mess with the Zohan is quintessential Sandler, and people who don't like Sandler's comedies should stay far, far away. Zohan is about as over-the-top as you can get; Sandler plays an Israeli assassin who is all but a super man. When a terrorist he's chasing (John Turturro) climbs aboard a Jet Ski and starts driving away, Sandler jumps into the water and, swimming like a dolphin, manages to catch him. Women go crazy for him, and he makes a mean barbeque. He also likes to have sex with everything, and when he moves to New York to get into the hairstyling business, that helps him become the most popular stylist in the city; after all, the old women just love free sex after getting their hair done.
There's really not much to say, but this is the first absolutely stupid movie that I've enjoyed in a long time. Zohan is stuffed with idiotic jokes and cheesy moments, but it just works. The ending is pretty weak, but then again, it's hard to end a movie that doesn't have a real plot to begin with.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan is a refreshing surprise. It isn't smart, it isn't clever, but it is full of idiotic jokes that actually work. Adam Sandler has returned.
