The Informers (2009) - Movie Review

The Informers is like a 1980's version of Crash, only not as good, interesting or well-acted. Directed by Gregor Jordan, the movie is about several tragic characters all trying to make it their own way, whether it's doing drugs and having sex all night long or making a little cash by kidnapping a little boy for ransom. The movie was too dull to really pay attention to what was going on.

I'll be perfectly frank: I watched this movie for one reason only, and that's because Amber Heard, whom I have a Hollywood crush on, gets naked and sleeps with practically everyone in Los Angeles in this movie. And on that note, The Informers doesn't disappoint. She plays the slut of sluts, having sex with multiple guys at a time, often in slow motion. These were the best scenes of the movie.

Unfortunately, sex and nudity can't make a movie good, and The Informers is not good. The movie has a surprisingly strong cast, which includes Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Winona Ryder, Jon Foster, Rhys Ifans and Brad Renfro, among others. And yet, all those big names seemed to have been tricked into doing work for this movie, a production doomed from the onset to direct-to-DVD hell (it received a very, very limited theatrical release in the spring). Not a single one of them offer anything to the picture, subdued by a boring screenplay and restrained direction. I'm still not sure what the point of the movie was.

The Informers had the pieces to be something, but instead it's nothing. It's a complete waste of talent.
