End of Days (1999) - Movie Review
The plot is this: On the eve of the Millennium, the devil comes to Earth to make a baby with an unsuspecting young woman. An ex-cop (Schwarzenegger) is drawn into the plot and learns of the truth, and tries to keep the devil from the young woman for two days.
The movie is filled with nice looking directorial techniques and contains a slick sound track and great special effects. Hyams does a good job with creating a dark, strange atmosphere, and the take on the devil is specially interesting. The story was really interesting and the movie overall was much more entertaining than Stigmata (also starring Gabriel Byrnes, and of which I liked) and much more action packed.
I was extremely impressed by Arnold's acting in this film, but I was also glad that it had a lot of action. He manages to get his hands on quite a few weapons and uses them accordingly. The only thing I didn't understand is why Arnold is able to get all these weapons and assist the police, yet he is no longer a police officer (is it a hobby?).
Gabriel Byrnes, who played the good guy in Stigmata, is the absolute bad guy in End of Days. His body gets possessed by the devil and he starts looking for Robin Tunney, who is the one chosen to bed with him. Byrne plays a slick, current, and chilling villain, and portrays Satan well.
Robin Tunney, as mentioned, is the twenty-year old girl chosen to bed with devil and create a baby that will cause the end of days. She has a very sexy, innocent role in the film and is a great choice for the lead female.
End of Days is an action-packed thriller with a great story, great direction, and good acting.

August 7, 2006Watched 20 minutes and it was more like End of My Life. This movie blows. Arnold proves again he is a grunting overgrown monkey who is lucky he got cast as Conan and The Terminator, otherwise he would be in Austria. The Special Effects DO NOT stand the test of time, and the story is lame upon lame. Arnold blows, this movie blows, and I'm ready for some good/different movies about the 'ending of the world'.
