Happy Gilmore (1996) - Movie Review
Sandler stars as the title character, a horrible hockey player who realizes he needs to make money when his grandmother is evicted from her home and forced into a senior citizen's community, ruled over by the evil Ben Stiller. He finds that he has the natural talent to hit the golf ball extraordinary distances and he soon takes to the tour, despite the reluctance by Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), his arch-nemesis on the course. Happy's destructive behavior brings all kinds of new audiences to golf, the only reason that saves him from getting kicked out.
"Happy Gilmore" is filled with great jokes, from great lines such as "You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?" to hilarious scenes such as Sandler getting his ass kicked by Bob Barker ("The price is wrong, Bob!"). Not only does "Happy Gilmore" improve upon the jokes in Sandler's previous film, "Billy Madison," but it provides laugh-out-loud jokes that everyone can enjoy (well, everyone who likes Adam Sandler, that is). McDonald does a particularly excellent job at playing the evil bad guy.
The DVD features outtakes and 25 minutes of deleted scenes, many of which are very funny and only removed for time purposes. The DVD is definitely recommended.
"Happy Gilmore" is Adam Sandler's best movie to date, and, more than likely, will always be his best movie.
