I liked the film because it showed white people for the imperialist snobs they are, always have been and always will be. No wonder those critics hated it. They must have been squirming in their seats. Lord knows white folks don't like it when you offend their sensibilities. Furthermore the film was not glorifying the great white way, and we know how they love to be glorified. From reading the critics, it seems they expected to go in there and see some heavy philosophical crap on the cuban revolution and how white america was right all along about Castro. They were obviously disappointed.

I went in there to have some fun and that's exactly what I got. But then again I didn't go in there expecting to see a heavy duty boring oscar movie. The film just flew by and it was fun. Now if it bored you to death or you needed a prozac by the end of it, those middle age white critics would have been telling you what a masterpiece it is. Not every film has to be melodramtic misery. Of course it has flaws like any films, but I think people take the film way too seriouly. Just see it for what it is and leave it at that. Diego Luna is the best thing in it though.

Patrick Swayze looked totally out of place in the movie. His character has no name. There's no explanation for his being there. This movie is more of a prequel since it took place before the original DD. How do they explaim Patrick looking so old in the 50's when the original DD took place in the 60's. It's silly. The only reason to see this film is Diego Luna and Romola. When he and Romola are on screen dancing the film soars,(the music & dancing was great & way more sizzling than the original.) unfortunately they're constantly interrupted by unnecessary side stories and characters. If the film truly centered around them it would have been great. The ending was just plain rushed and poorly done. You're supposed to build to a climax. This film does the opposite. Diego is such a talented actor, it's too bad his first English speaking starring roles he get stucked with lazy unimaginative writers and a mediocre director. Despite that he still shines. That's true talent.

Best movie ever!! Diego look so good in it the dances are good ohh my god!! and the club Rosa Negra!! i wanna go there!! i'll do anything to can do that!! i mean they were so sensual!! That's how everyone should dance!! I recommand that movie!!

After months of watching pretentious, boring not to mention depressing oscar movies, Havana Nights was a welcome RELIEF. LOVED IT. OK the editing sucked and the directing so-so. I know he could have gotten more heat out of Diego for that love scene & the kissing scenes. y tu mama tambien HELLO! The writers could have given him better dialogues too; and a longer story. All and all he did the best with what he was given. The music and dancing was pure FUN. Went in there feeling crappy came out dancing. What else can you ask for? Diego! Damn you're HOT!

Critics bring so much industry insider baggage to a movie review, which is why i never listen to them. Unfortunately a lot of people do. So glad I went to see DD Havana nights. great music, great dancing, beautiful and talented young stars, better script than the original. Wished it was longer. I could have watched Diego DANCE for another hour. where have they been hiding this CUTIE?
