to Crazy ....s, by K.A. Papadopoulos

Mr. crazy whatever …!
Is your problem that people are commencing about the historical ground of a film that is not yet out on the cinemas - something that makes them unable to commence about the actors performances etc. etc. as you are implying that you would do?
Or is it that people are writing long answers, especially those whom the content you don’t like?
Or is it a type of racism of yours against my profession, my name and the fact of my Greek origin?
Or is it because you DO NOT have any possibility or probability to prove me wrong and it is difficult to face the truth?

Listen up Mr. G;
As far as concerns you arguments I am impressed from the depth of your thoughts the richness of your language and the astounding bibliography that you are referring into.
I am a philanthropist but it is not to my intentions to help out your sexual life by playing the game of cursing with you. If you are looking for pleasure and satisfaction the normal way is to find a partner in order to clear up your mind. You are into the wrong chat room mate. Good luck in your wandering.

Next time do some reading!, by K.A. Papadopoulos

By , May 1, 2004

People! I do not have time to teach you history. Your arguments are far away from serious and every scholar -or researcher if you prefer, would be more cautious to support an opinion for Great Alexander quoting on the trilogy of novels by Valerio M. Manfredi! The bibliography on Alexander the III is huge and in many languages. So, please help yourselves, go to a library ask about and finally study a historical book not sci-fiction.
As more briefly as I can:
a) Sorry for the disappointment but the word “Macedonia/Makedonia” is Greek. It is attested also in Homer (Odyssey, H' Rhapsody, v.106). Derives from the Doric word “makos” that means length. Thus, “makednis” is the land of the tall people.
b) The Cyrillic alphabet it was invented during the 9th century by St Cyril and St Methodius, missionaries from Byzantium, in order to translate the Bible and other religious works into a language that could easily be adopted by the Slavic tribes that had settled to the Great Moravia region. The Cyrillic alphabet achieved its current form in 1708 during the reign of Peter the Great.
So, put it in your heads there is not a so-called “makedonian” language. To the question, what kind of language did the ancient Macedonians use; the answer can be given based on the existing references in ancient documents and the excavated inscriptions and especially the coins. Alexander as Greek/Hellenas was speaking Greek/Hellenic as his father and the father of his father etc. [on that cf. Herodotus, Histories (9,45); Odyssey: VIII: 106; Hesiodos, HOIAI A,2 Herodotus I,56,3 ; I,58,1 ; V,20,4 ; V,22,1-2 ; VIII,43 ; VIII,137 ; IX,45,2 ; Isocratis Panigirikos, 96 ; To Philippos, 127 ; Polybios VII 9, 1-3 ; V 103, 9 ; IX 35, 2 ; IX 37, 7 ; 1 Makk. 1:10 ; Tito Livius XXXI 29, 15 ; Stravonas VII Frg, 9 ; Arrianos I (Anabasis) 16, 7 ; II (Anabasis) 14, 4 ; Plutarchos, Alexandros,47,6 ; 69,4 ; On the fortune of Alexandros,I,328D,329A ; Pausanias Phokika,VIII, 4 ; Iliaka,VIII, 11.]
c) About what the Polis-State was and how it was operating in antiquity cf. C. Morgan, Early Greek States beyond the Polis, (London 2003) or A. Adkins-P. White (eds), The Greek Polis, (Chicago 1986).
d) Finally some quotations from ancient historians about Alexander or Macedon’s:
“I wish all of you, now that the wars are coming to an end, to live happily, in peace. All mortals from now on will live like one people, united, and peacefully working towards a common prosperity. You should regard the whole world as your country, a country where the best govern, with common laws, and no racial distinctions. I do not separate people, as many narrow minded others do, into Greeks and barbarians. I am not interested in the origin or race of citizens. I only distinguish them on the basis of their virtue. For me each foreigner is a Greek and each bad Greek is a barbarian. If ever there appear differences among you, then you must not resolve them by taking to arms, you should resolve them in peace. If need be, I will act as your negotiator.
You must not think of God as an authoritarian ruler, but you should consider him as a common father, so that your conduct resembles the uniform behavior of brothers who belong to the same family. For my part, I consider all, whether they be white or black, equal. And I would like you to be not only subject of my common-wealth, but also participants and partners. You should regard the Oath we have taken tonight as a Symbol of Love.”
This is the oath that Alexander the III (the Great) took in Opis [city near Babylon] at 324 BCE. (Pseudo-Kallisthenes cf. Eratosthenes, Book iii)
“In the past you rivaled the Achaians and the Macedonians, peoples of your own race, and Philip, their commander, for the hegemony and glory, but now that the freedom of the Hellenes is at stake at a war against an alien people , ...And does it worth to ally with the barbarians, to take the field with them against the Epeirotans, the Achaians, the Akarnanians, the Boiotians, the Thessalians, in fact with almost all the Hellenes… So Lakedaimonians it is good to remember your ancestors... be afraid of the Romans... and DO ALLY yourselves with the Achaians and Macedonians.” (Polybios 9.37.7-39.7) [Speech of Lykiskos, the representative of Akarnania]

That’s all folks, this comedy that you are playing has to finish!!! Happy reading!!! Try on with somebody naïve who also like sci-fiction novels.

Read & Think, by ThinkJustaLittle

One thing that is evident in most people of Southern Balkanic heritage today (especially Serbs, Albanians, Macedonians, and Greeks) is the obsession with their racial make-up. It is especially ironical to see the ancestors of the ancient Greek philosophers giving up what we may simply call thinking. What you all need is just a few minutes of thinking about your purpose and significance in the universe. It is good to wonder about your ancestors; but your eye color, your great grandparents' hair color, or your wife's pale skin color has NO significance whatsoever in the bigger scale of things. I do not see how one can have an individual sense of meaning by anything but his conscience. Yet, what you see today when you look at forums frequented by Southern Balkanic people today, is nothing more than a desperate effort to make themselves associate with the white race, the "purer", the better.
Look no further than this "forum" for proof. Again, what matters when you die is not what your hair color or complexion was. Does it matter if Alexander the Great had blond hair or not? No, not at all. Yet to most people here it really does. Why? Becase white = good, the more we associate ourselves from the evil ones (e.g. dirty Turks), the better. It is quite sad, if you ask me.

Editing: The last sentence should have been:
"Because white = good, and the more we disassociate ourselves from the evil ones (e.g. "dirty Turks"), the better. It is quite sad, if you ask me."
