Lost & Found (1999) - Movie Review

Chris Farley is gone but David Spade is still here, and he proves with Lost and Found that he has what it takes to stand on his own. After such films as Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, David Spade returns to the screen in this romance comedy starring Braveheart Queen and Bond Girl Sophie Marceau, who is a French cellist. Comedy ensues as, to get her to like him, Spade "borrows" her dog.

There's one thing going for this movie, and that makes all the difference. Lost and Found is funny. It is hilarious. Spade hits just the right note with his sarcastic humor, and there are several great scenes that will stay with me. The dog poop scene is definitely memorable, and the lip sync has to be up on the greatest scenes of all times. It is just so fricking hilarious, and when he throws her on the table and... Well, you have to see the movie.

And, unfortunately, no one seems to have seen Lost and Found. It fell out of theaters very quickly, and that's too bad. Maybe people thought that David Spade was nothing without Chris Farley, whom he shared several of his movies with. In fact, Spade goes beyond the absolutely stupid gags that made all of Farley's movies seem the same and delivers some real comedy. Don't get my wrong · I loved Tommy Boy and liked Black Sheep, but Lost and Found doesn't have much in the way of personal injury and stupidity (although there is some of that, as seen in Wally, played by Artie Lange. I just can't shake the sense that this guy would have been played by Farley if he were still alive).

As for Sophie Marceau, she might be a little out of David Spade's league, and his kind of comedy, but by the end, she has blended quite well. She seems a little too dignified in the beginning to be in a film like Lost and Found, but as everything progresses, she works her way in between the lines to become a perfect match for Spade.

Lost and Found is one of the funniest movies of 1999. That says enough.
