Chronicles of Cliche, by His HiTechness
June 23, 2004
I am movie critic, a professional one, I own a film company, distribution, and publishing. I have to say the current trend in the Hollywood film industry is, "Lets make films in the action sci-fi genre, no matter if the concept is overused". The only problem is that the Matrix trilogy is the best that can be copied and if you ask me, and I don't care if you do mind, nothing compares.
This film is cliche written all over it, boring, and a waste of good investor money. If you are a fan of the actor V. Diesel, then see it for the sake of fanhood, but don't praise the film just because he stars in it.
Neo was the antihero/hero and even before Pitch Black and even before Matrix you had the heroes in sci-fi action called Stand Alone Complex, referring to the cyborg unit of Ghost in the Shell, a concept hailed long before Diesel was a shining dark star as Riddick. At least someone mentioned Gene Roddenberry's (Genius Gene) creation. There is hope still. Thumbs down, but still hip for the young crowd? V. Diesel is older then me.
