Movie Review
Grade: B
Last year, The Ring impressed audiences in the United States and abroad with its creepy though ultimately question-raising story about a videotape that kills whoever watches it exactly seven days later. Many of those who saw the U.S. version have heard of the original 1998 Japanese version, Ringu, but many fewer have seen it. Ringu raises many of the same questions that The Ring did, but adds one more: Why make The Ring in the first place? Read the full movie review

Ringu is Not Just One Movie, by No one
December 9, 2003
The Japanese version is actually a trilogy, with the original movie plus a sequel and a prequel. I think Ringu should be treated not just as one single movie, but part of a bigger picture. If you watched the other two movies, then things will get much, much clearer. And I guess you can't appreciate Ringu that much because of the culture barrier. The Japanese are very deep thinkers, with inclination to the sombre. You won't understand a lot of things unless you rack your brains trying to understand it, and put into mind that this is a Japanese movie. Things are different in this side of the planet. That's what makes Ringu a lot better than The Ring. It makes you think.
