Movie Review

The Village is one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2004, but hype can truly destroy a decent film, especially when marketed deceptively. This is M. Night Shyamalan's latest thriller, but suspense is not the name of the game and that may lose many, many viewers. Full movie review »

I can see the room for displeasure in this film, but dispite the negative media attention around the film, there is something many critics and viewers are failing to address. This film addresses many issues about our society post 9/11. For those who did not enjoy the film I suggest they re-watch the film, viewing it from that lens. M. Night Shyamalan's message about America post 9/11 is more frightening than the marginally scary creatures in the woods. We should all try to think a little deeper than Paris Hilton.

i have yet to see this film, although the director has been succesfull in five prior movies, that have had enormous sucess. i belive this film will truly capture the audiences imagination to the "what if".

I watched the trailer and I must say that it closely resembles his other film, Signs. Though I like the PBS/BBC special type direction in this film I am curious about the style of acting by a particular female actor, "Don't let them in". It seemed cliche and cheesy at first glance. Yet, his films are sharp and possess ideal suspense twists in a current film industry that lacks this type of genre. In the end of this film it might turn out that we are expecting that the creatures are really Native American Indians that were, well, misunderstood and that their indigeous ways were really a cry for lets say, "Hey we are neighbors, lets get to know each better even though we have different customs and beliefs".
