REAL REASON Sky Captain Was Delayed !!!, by Would

May 13, 2004

OK folks, here's the REAL REASON Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow was delayed. And no, it wasn't because of a move of Spiderman II by Sony. It's something even better -- the film fell behind it release date because SO MANY GREEN SCREEN SHOTS HAD TO BE PROCESSED BY THE COMPUTER ANIMATION GUYS -- NOT JUST DOING THE EFFECTS, BUT, get this - they had to put in the sets! Wait -- there's more. This film gives a new name to the phrase used by the CG people, "Set Extension". How about inventing a NEW phrase like "Furniture Extension"?
Paramount is having chickens because the budget is zooming. Don't blame the FX companies - next time, JUST BUILD THE DAMN SET. Sheeze, you really think that word wouldn't get out on all the extra Green Screen shots they have to do? And we're not talking 'normal green screen', this goes 'Way beyond anything Mr. Lucas has fooled around with. How about extending the insides of a regular office? As Danny DeVito said in LA CONFIDENTIAL: "Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush." Now you know the REAL REASON why none of you is going to see SKY CAPTAIN this summer. And by the way, this isn't to mean that it's a bad movie - quite the reverse, it's going to be terrific, AND the most expensive 'little movie' anyone ever shot in Hollywood.
