Grade: B-
One of the most anticipated films of summer 2004 was the $130,000 indie film Open Water, a thriller that claimed to be a cross between The Blair Witch Project and Jaws. Okay, so it may not be up to the standard of either of those, but this one's got a little nudity, lots of sharks and an amazing sense of tension as two divers are stranded in the middle of the ocean without any hope in sight. A trailor that gives nightmares., by Ted Milano, L
July 2, 2004
With Hollywood throwing millions at mediocre, high definition special effects and poorly written scripts it is becoming painfully obvious that the true talent in cinema entertainment and innovative concepts lies with the up and coming independent film makers who are reliant on their imaginations. Films such as THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and FAHRENHEIT 9/11 have earned the respect of many movie-goers who grow tied of regurgitated scripts that have high-dollar budgets and name-brand actors but offer little entertainment value for the buck and lack creative spirit.
Upon seeing the trailor for OPEN WATER, I knew I was in for yet another brilliant film experience. I was so terrified that I felt that I would require courage to actually subject myself to this film. Now, that's a true horror film for our time...
