This was one of the best movies about the concept of personhood that I've seen. It doesn't address what makes people think or any real sci-fi concepts. It simply asks what would an artificial life-form have to do to be taken seriously as a person. It has civil rights messages that can be applied to many other issues. I don't think it was really supposed to be a comedy but a drama, and it is a good one.
