Movie Review
Trite but harmless, "Annapolis" follows the adventures of one young loser trying to achieve his dreams - of becoming a West Point graduate. No, there's nothing bad about graduating from the prestigious school, but the main character, played by James Franco, is so full of himself that he does his best not to succeed every step of the way. Of course, his commanding officer (or drill sargeant or whatever they are called at West Point) sees something in him, even though the audience doesn't. Full movie review »

July 28, 2006I dont recall this being anything about West Point hence West Point being in the upper New York area while the Naval Academy of Annapolis is the one being discussed int this film. Hence the Navy and Marine battle in the boxing ring. I am a military brat as well and since none has pegged this mistake of sayin West Point and not USNA well I can only say do more research before writing using reference to such a prestigious and honorable place. No I am not a Navy brat but an USAF brat but still no my knwoledge to the branches honorable Academies.

April 10, 2006The idea that anything produced in Hollywood would be 100% accurate is laughable. I found, however, Annapolis was entertaining with a serious message of the common man's struggle trying to find himself. Lin's movie lacks depth and originality as he blends Top Gun, Rocky, and Taps, but does so in a mature manner without gratuitous sex, language, or violence. As a military brat myself, I can see the holes and fallacies, but did not realize until the next day that I enjoyed the movie with my 15 year old son (who also enjoyed the film) without subjecting him to what Hollywood normally claims it needs in order to sell many movies today. Well done, Lin, on a mature family movie.

February 4, 2006This movie is one of the best movies I seen about the Navy. I loved everything about this movie it had a great story and a great plot and drive to it. James Franco once again this year has proven to be an amazing actor. Go see this movie because it is awesome, awesome, awesome.

October 21, 2005Hollywood's been making military movies for decades. No one ever complained about the fictions in them, at least no one that matters. Weasel, Alex, take it all in stride. Perhaps a movie like this will encourage the youth of America to once again care about our nation. Anyway, Go Navy, Beat Army

October 18, 2005Looks like the hollywood chuckleheads are taking a stab at our nation's military academies. Is anything sacred? Being a cadet myself, (not of Annapolis) I am horrified to see dreck like this produced. I can't wait to see the sequal about being a single mother at the Air Force Academy and not knowing which upperclassman is the father. It is also refreshing to know that our nations' finest midshipmen have spelling capabilities of twelve year olds. Hooyaah! This seems worse than GI JANE (and that is LOW) Even if this movie were free, it would not be worth the gas i spent on the trip.
