Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island"—reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. Movie Review

The world has been infected with a deadly contagion, forcing people to live in a futuristic sanctuary where their every outburst is recorded and every bite of food closely monitored. While these people are alive and well, they also lead seemingly pointless lives where they are forced to do mundane tasks and are not allowed to touch the opposite sex. Of course, if you've seen any one of the previews for "The Island" you know that this isn't the reality these people live in - and, you probably know the entire plot from start to finish. 'The Island' is essentially a remake of 1979's 'The Clonus Horror' (aka 'Parts: The Clonus Horror' Plot summary "A young man escapes from a govenment run project called Clonus only to find out that Peter Graves (Jeff Knight) a candidate for Presidency is a conspirator to keep Clonus a secret. Top government officials are aware of it and support the super secret project, because they are cloning themselves to live longer and better lives, at the expense of their clone counter-part, who is no more than a "slave" as far as human rights are concerned. The ethical and moral values are explored as the escapee (Tim Donnelly) known as Richard returns full circle back to Clonus, only to find his girlfriend lobotimized for government security purposes."

'The Island' is simply more proof that Hollywood thinks that vacuous crap with no plot or story development is what people want. What about originality & creativity? I guess the bean counters that run the entertainment industry feel that these qualities aren't cost effective.
