An epic tale based on the famous Old English poem, "Beowulf," which inspired Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings". The medieval adventure, part fable, part horror story is loosely based on the 9th century Anglo-Saxon poem, "Beowulf," telling the blood-soaked tale of a Norse hero's battle with a great and murderous troll.
Venting a life long grudge against the men who killed his father, monstrous troll Grendel embarks on a murderous campaign against a Danish settlement whose...

Movie Review
Beowulf & Grendel, based on the Old English poem, takes a look at man versus monster as the legendary hero Beowulf as he and his group of men attempt to hunt down and kill the troll Grendel. An international cast filmed in Iceland on what appears to be a very small budget - which is probably good since the movie made less than $100,000 in U.S. theaters.

May 21, 2006I read this epic poem in class this year and to see the trailer on what they did to this story i am kinda dissapointed. Like somebody said Grendels father is never mentioned, they talk about his mother and beowolf fights/kills her, he doesnt kill Grendel but he tears off his arm with his bear hands (for grendel to suffer and die slow i guess). He puts it on a plaque in a Hall or something like that, and Grendel isnt supposed to be a troll he is supposed to be a hideous looking monster a descendent of Cain from the bible story or whatever and now to see that they totally changed the story it sucks.

February 8, 2006I saw this movie at the Vancouver Film Festival and am eagerly looking forward to seeing it again in CANADA in March. I really enjoyed the tale told in this movie, which could easily have been one of the versions told around camp fires ala the oral tradition. Many applicable themes dealing with the human experience!

February 7, 2006I was reading your post and no where does it say you actually saw the film. Have you seen the film to make this sort of judgement, I have actually seen the film and beg to differ on all you have said.
Maybe you just really do not like the peom itself much, that is what it sounds like to me. I have spoke to others around the globe and they would differ as well.

February 7, 2006I think we have to consider that movies have to be highly entertaining and exciting to keep the publics interest. This film is visually stunning, with no computer tricks. It has a great cast all extremely talented. There has never been a film based on history or books that follows the exact writings. Otherwise it might be extremely dull to lots of other movie goers who may not be academics. You can stay at home and read facts, when you go to the cinema you want to see something spectacular and exciting and that is what Beowulf and Grendel has in abundance and its something lacking on the cinema screen today unfortunately.
