Movie Review
Mel Gibson's Apocalypto is like The Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart and Gladiator all rolled into one, although the amalgam is not quite as good as any single one of those movies. Regardless, Apocalypto is one of the most intense, entertaining and ambitious movies of 2006.

December 31, 2007Mr. Gibson is without a doubt on top of his game as a movie maker. Not only is his cinematography not notch, he uses his clout as a celebrity to convey genuine truth and challenge societal norms. Bravo Mr. Gibson.

December 4, 2006to the poster above, who posts reviews for movies they haven't even seen? The trailers weren't even out when that review was posted....Arg.
anyway, i caught an advance screening last week and have to say that this is one of the most beautifully shot films I've seen. Not only is the cinematography amazing, but the sets, costumes, and other intricacies are just so detailed and well-done. The story itself is very intense (no one will be able to leave the theater for a bathroom break, i assure you) and when the film was over, the audience cheered Mel's name. Parts of the film reminded me of Last of the Mohicans, Predator, and Braveheart.

Come on Mr. Gibson, how many times can you remake the same film. The description sounds perilously like the story line for BraveHeart and Patriot warmed over one more time. The tired theme of the lone hero ,driven by love of wife and family , bravely making a stand to save his village/culture/nation.
I must confess, I have not seen the film so perhaps I am being unjustly harsh, but things don't look good for the home team from the synopsis.I used to enjoy Mel's films but I feel I am required to be far waryer (if that's a word) of what he is in these days.
