Movie Review

I rarely use swear words in my reviews for the sake of a family entertainment, but every once in a while a movie comes along that warrants such sinful words. "Silent Hill," a video game-adapted horror movie, easily fits into the genuinely fucked-up genre. Whether you love it or hate it, you'll have to admit that not only is its atmosphere consistently creepy from beginning to end, but that it is one fucked-up movie in premise and conclusion. Mmk, so I went to see this with my friend, and I had seen some of the beginning on MTV so I already knew the acting from the little girl was going to be...horrific (not in a good way)...as it continued, I got way bored, I have never played the game, I've just heard its scary to play by yourself, whatever, I didn't get scared once watching this bore-fest. The atmosphere is engaging; the ideas are cool, but when it's poorly executed, and nothing is done to capatalize on these factors, what's the point? Everytime "the darkness" took over, nothing happened that truely startled me...It didn't help that within 20 min I knew exactly what was going happen...as for the ending, geesh, could you get any cheesier!? I definately laughed my ass off. I don't think I was supposed to be doing that. Maybe that kind of ending works in video games, but I don't think it does in movies (I'm referring to the church scene). Everything about the plot just annoys me, and the scenes were fleshed out too much, they could have sped it up, and made me a lil less bored. My friend and I wanted to leave and hour in, but for some reason, we didn't...now when I'm on my death bed, I'll just wish I could have that 2 hours back to spend with my grandchildren, guess that won't happen.

I loved the first two video games that came out. And from what I understand the movie incorporated all 4 sequels into this movie. I think in order to appreciate this movie you really have to be a fan of the game first.
Plot wise, it's the same as the game, full of creepiness and just leaves you confused. I personally enjoyed it but I would not recommend it to any of my friends UNLESS they wanted to see the outstanding visuals and ominimous soundscapes this movie has to offer.
I agree the acting could have been a bit better, but again if you played the game you would see it's almost a carbon copy as well when it comes to performance.
This movie was creepy and wierd, and even though I enjoyed I wasn't completely satisfied with the story line and for me it was really like watching someone playing the video game then me watching a move.
One more note. When we were exiting the theatre,a group of teenage kids were making comments about the movie, one being "That was the craziest acid trip I've ever seen".

My recommendation is to wait for the DVD.

I think they left out the guy from the game (if you are referring to Silent Hill 1) to maybe make the movie open to a more diverse audience. I guess they wanted to put Sean Bean's character in it. This will be an awesome movie which does not stray from the games too much. Great atmosphere and visual horror.
