Movie Review
December has only just begun, but we have a leading candidate for Best Picture - according to the buzz around town - and that candidate is Slumdog Millionaire. It sounds extraordinary, I know, but some people might be hesitant about watching a movie about a young man who is on the verge of winning India's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" but who, through the course of the game, recaps his life growing up as a thief and a "slumdog," and his aspirations to be with the love of his life, who he has barely talked to since he was an orphaned child.

December 5, 2008Because I love India and have traveled extensively there I had to see this movie. And for the same reasons that I love Inda I was able to really enjoy Slumdog. Both are fantasy which really borders closely on real life . The fantasy borders not just on the realm of wonderful dreams coming to fruition but also on the worst of nightmares being real.
India is not like the world we know here in the West. The culture, the landscape, the attire, the transportation, the housing, the architecture, the people , the conversations, the media, and the food differ drastically . Therefore we can be astounded again and again be all that we experience here. Slumdog portrays this very well. It is both interesting , exciting, stimulating and informational. And a lot of fun also!
