Departures is one really delightful movie. It is true that death and dying plays a role here but it is dealt with not only with great dignity but with humor as well.

The acting is so low key yet highly effective that these characters seem to really live their parts. The viewer can readily identify with the main characters and find oneself caring about their trials and aspirations.

There is some highly unusual death scenes here but they are surrounded with gentle reality and compassion.

Departures is an easy movie to like. I would recommend it highly. Phyllis Hartt Supercritic
