Movie Review

It was almost a certainty that Extreme Ops, a teen movie about a bunch of snowboarders that take on international terrorists, was going to end up on my Top Ten Worst Movies List for 2002. Surprisingly, it comes nowhere close to that pit of hell. Extreme Ops stars Devon Saw, Rufus Sewell and Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, among others, as a bunch of semi-young extremists who are filming a commercial in the Austrian Alps. They take refuge at a yet-to-be-completed mountaintop resort, where, of course, a terrorist General is hiding out. On the run, they use their skills to take down the bad guys. In actuality, the terrorists only show up in the last half hour of the movie, giving way to an hour of some fun snowboarding stunts. No one said that Extreme Ops was supposed to be an intelligent movie, and for the most part, there is nothing too intellectual about it. Most of the characters are funny but a little too eccentric at times; no sane people are as crazy as these people. Furthermore, no one can snowboard behind a train (how do they get back onboard?). Nonetheless, Extreme Ops is surprisingly entertaining and even a little suspenseful at times (oh, and the avalanche sequence looks much better than the one played out in XXX).
