This is a very moving piece of film. Kevin Kline is compelling and believable as the dying man who wakes up to the life he had and let go of. In a life of regrets, he attempts to build what he lost in life as he approaches his death. Along the way he wins the love of his desperately unhappy son. Christianson shows that he is ready to command. Star Wars aside this young man is intense, believable and never over the top though his character could have been played melodramatically. His restraint brings the character to life. Truly this is a film about people. The action is subdued and life isn't always pretty. I do not believe that it is suitable for the pre-teen set. The subject matter is far too serious and scenes of drug use, child prostitution and adult/teen sexuality make the film truly suitable only for adults... having said that, I add the caveat.. adults who can think critically and see the film for what it is, a masterpiece.
