The Devil Inside Movie Review

Share:

I'm an atheist, yet I've always found exorcism movies scary. Maybe that's because if the Devil did exist, I would have no defense. Regardless, I've always had an affinity for stories about people possessed by demons, even though every single one follows the exact same formula. Despite staying true to script, The Devil Inside is one of the worst movies I've seen since last year's Apollo 18.

I don't believe in God, and if you watch The Devil Inside, you won't either. Even if you're the most religious, Bible-versed Christian on the face of the planet, you won't believe in God after watching this movie that, if I didn't know better, appears to be straight from the pits of Hell. Because God, if He were to exist, would never allow such an atrocity to be made, let alone released nationwide.

There's no real point dwelling on the plot. There's a woman who is allegedly possessed by a demon, a couple of priests and her smoking hot daughter team up to exorcise her, and she contorts into weird positions and speaks in various languages. As is usual fashion for the latest breed of exorcism movies, the demon then moves on to possess other cast members for what is supposed to be a shocking ending.

Yawn.

The only scary parts are shown in the previews. The rest of The Devil Inside has the characters talking to the camera (yes, this is a found footage movie, thank Jesus) and watching the scary parts on their computers.

The Devil's Inside is the most boring exorcism movie I've ever seen. Coupled with the found footage approach and the general disregard for quality filmmaking, that makes it quite possibly the worst exorcism movie I've ever seen. And I've seen some bad ones.

Then again, maybe this movie is truly from the pits of hell. The Devil created this movie to make us laugh at the preposterous concept of exorcisms so we'll look the other way. That means... exorcisms are real. Which means demons are real. Which means the Devil is real. Which means I'm screwed.

Where's the nearest church?
