13 Movies to See in 2013 – And 13 More

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

After years and years of delays and rumors, the sequel to Sin City finally makes it’s way to theaters. It remains to be seen whether the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller original was merely a flash in the pan.

Pacific Rim

The world develops gigantic fighting robots to battle gigantic killer monsters that have attacked the planet. Think Godzilla meets Transformers. We’re not saying the combination will work – the first trailer was questionable at best – but with Guillermo del Toro at the helm, you never know.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The first Hunger Games was disappointingly plain, primarily because Lionsgate and director Gary Ross decided to play it safe. With Catching Fire – which plot wise is pretty much a rehash of the first book – director Francis Lawrence hopefully has more ability to flex his muscles, if for no other reason than that first movie made so much money.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues

Will Ferrell returns in the long awaited sequel to Anchorman. Whether the movie can rediscover the magic found in the original is an entirely different matter.

Gangster Squad

Gangster Squad was originally scheduled to be released in 2012, but after the Aurora shooting, Warner Bros. was forced to re-shoot the climax, which involved a massive shooting at a movie theater. I am absolutely sick of watching the frenetic trailers for the film, but the all-star cast (Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Emma Stone) sells itself.
