Captain America Salutes the Box Office Gods

The box office gods have weighed in, and they have approved of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In turn, the first Avenger gazes up at the sky and salutes, before shifting his focus back to kicking some serious ass.

The action-packed sequel, which is arguably the best Marvel movie made so far–or at least the best Marvel sequel so far–opened to terrific movie reviews and audiences responded in turn. The movie opened to a whopping $96.2 million in the United States, a significant improvement over the first film’s $65 million summer opening.

Noah cratered in its second weekend–not surprising given the controversial nature of the project and a certain superhero–falling over 60% to $17 million. On the flip side, the other religiously themed movie in theaters, the low budget God’s Not Dead, continued to produce miracles by earning another $7.7 million, down only 12% from last year.
