The 30 Movies You Absolutely Must See in 2015
Though it’s always hard to predict at the beginning of the year, 2015 is going to be huge for movies. With new installments of several huge franchises on the way–including new entries in The Avengers and Star Wars franchises–it sure looks like this year is going to make up for the financial wasteland studios faced in 2014.
Beyond the franchise onslaught, however, fantastic filmmakers and actors who were notably absent in 2014–like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino, to name a few–will be releasing new movies in 2015.
Here are 30 movies you absolutely have to see in 2015.
30. It Follows
This slow-boil horror film has a thankfully refreshing premise: a teenage girl, after giving up her virginity, learns that the dude she slept with has reluctantly passed on the worst kind of STD: a demon that will follow her as long as she lives, which may not be too much longer.
The book is supposed to be terrible and it’s hard to believe the movie is going to truly satisfy its numerous fans, but we’re morbidly curious to see how the many erotic scenes are depicted for mainstream audiences.
28. San Andreas
Dwayne Johnson plays a helicopter pilot who must lead the rescue effort when a massive earthquake hits California. Hey, we needed one straight-up disaster flick on this list.
We have every expectation that this poorly titled and even more poorly cast (Jai Courtney, really???) Terminator sequel/reboot is going to be a disaster, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be there opening night.
The first Maze Runner was surprisingly entertaining, and given that it didn’t explain a damn thing, here’s hoping that its sequel offers a little more detail.
