We Ranked All of Marvel’s Movie Adaptations

With Guardians in the Galaxy Vol 2. in theaters this week, we felt the timing was right to look back at all of the Marvel movies released over the last 20 years and, for the sake of pissing some of you off, ranking them from worst to best. In other words, here are the best and worst movies based on Marvel comic books (shown with the original grade given to each at the time of release—we sure were generous with Spider-Man 3):

43. Ghost Rider (F)

I watched this movie on an airplane, for free, and still wanted my money back.

42. Punisher: War Zone (D-)

This utterly forgettable sequel is one of the worst action movies of the 21st century.

41. Elektra (D)

Do you think Jennifer Garner still wakes up with night sweats at the thought of this movie? Of course she does.

40. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (D-)

Anything could be better than the original Ghost Rider, but this sequel/reboot only proved that demon antiheroes with flaming skulls don’t work.

39. Fantastic Four (2015) (D+)

This ill-fated reboot has potential the original did not, but the end result is a disastrous mess and lesson in how not to make a movie.

38. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (D+)

This movie is easily the worst in the X-Men franchise, but even saying that doesn’t do the film justice.

37. Fantastic Four (2005) (C-)

This dull, cheesy action movie made Jessica Alba invisible—one of many, many mistakes.

36. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (C+)

Its sequel is only slightly better, maybe, and that’s only due to the extremely low expectations set by the first one. Also proof that bad guys should never be giant, nebulous clouds.

35. Hulk (C+)

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee’s misguided movie wasn’t as bad as everyone remembers it to be, but it isn’t exactly good.

34. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (C+)

Having seemingly learned nothing from its predecessors, this boring disaster got bogged down by an overload of villains, putting into question the prospect of any more sequels.

33. Spider-Man 3 (C+)

Why on earth would you make a movie with Venom, only to make him a side villain? And emo Tobey Maguire… ugh.
