USA’s ‘Mr. Robot’: Watch the Thrilling Pilot Episode Early

An evil corporation is taking over the world—if it hasn’t already—and one hacker’s decision to stop them (or not) may make for some surprisingly compelling television. The new show Mr. Robot, which premieres Wednesday, June 24 at 10/9c on USA Network, offers an impressively compelling pilot episode.

Better yet, USA is so confident in the show that they’ve unveiled the pilot online, for free, almost a month early.

Rami Malek is terrific in the lead, playing a socially awkward, neurotic (and possibly schizophrenic) cyber-security engineer who finds himself at a crossroads—does he do his job and protect the largest company in the world, or destroy it at the urging of a mysterious hacker (Christian Slater)? Just as impressive is the brooding, movie-esque way the show is shot, yet another affirmation that television has come a long way over the last decade. Only time will tell whether Mr. Robot can sustain itself once some of its mysteries are revealed, but the pilot episode effectively captivated my attention and has me yearning for episode two.

About Mr. Robot

MR. ROBOT follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the corporation he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world. The series also stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, and Martin Wallström. From Universal Cable Productions, MR. ROBOT is from writer and executive producer Sam Esmail (“Comet”) and executive producers Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”).
