Empire Records Review
When Empire Records first came out, I had no inclination to see it. Even when I finally did check out, I was expected an utterly pointless, and stupid movie. I was right. Empire Records is stupid, the characters are weird, and has absolutely no plot, but... But it was a fun and comical movie. As long as you are a teenager.
This was a movie of characters, and whether one likes the characters or not decides whether one likes the movie. There were some good ones and some bad ones, but all were pretty well acted, for a movie like this. Lucas, with his monotone and expressionless talk, was hilarious, and probably the most "catchy" character. Next came the girls, Corey (Liv Tyler) and Gina (Renée Zellweger), who, for the sake of being in a teenage movie, wore short skirts. Corey, the virgin of the story, goes after her idol, Rex Manning, and makes a complete fool of herself. Gina then goes after Manning, which causes a typical cat fight between the two.
The rest of the characters, besides A.J. and Debra, seemed to "just be there," serving no purpose, having no specific relationships, or anything else. Most of them were there for comical purposes, while some were just there to be there.
Empire Records was a pretty funny movie, the only downside being the rather cheesy ending. Still, this will be a delight to teenagers, as long as there aren't any nagging parents around to watch.
