Monster-in-Law Movie Review
I watched "Monster-in-Law" way back in August, so bear with me as I am finally writing the review in November. Needless to say, I don't remember much about the film, but in essence that is what my review is about - "Monster-in-Law" looked funny in the previews, but it lacks the kick that could have taken it to the next level.
Jennifer Lopez, looking for her first good movie since 1998, stars as Charlie, who is visiting her future mother-in-law for the first time. Michael Vartan ("Alias") plays her boyfriend Kevin, and Jane Fonda plays the mother... er, monster-in-law, who decides that she will do just about anything to destroy her son's relationship.
The movie left such a small impression on me that I don't even remember why Fonda's character hates Lopez so much (aside from the fact that she hasn't been in a good movie since 1998, whereas Fonda hadn't been in any movies since 1990), nor do I remember how the movie ends.
All I remember is that while there are some funny parts scattered throughout the movie, there is not enough to warrant a complete viewing of such a film. The only real shining star of the movie is Wanda Sykes, who plays the wise-cracking maid.
"Monster-in-Law" could have been so much better, but apparently J-Lo wanted to continue her losing streak.
