Ouija Movie Review

Now available on Blu-ray and DVD (Buy on Amazon)

Universal Pictures made the wise and long overdue decision to make a horror movie based on the creepy kid’s game Ouija. Too bad the movie is as generic as they come.

A group of attractive young people attempt to contact their dead friend using the Ouija Board, except they instead come into contact with an angry ghost. Commence the obligatory research into a murder that happened in the house decades earlier, a visit to an insane asylum and a lot of cheap scares.

The term “cheap scares” is generous, however, as you could crank the volume up to airplane level, sit a foot away from the television screen and watch for whatever director Stiles White throws at you and still not be scared. CGI ghosts, screaming dead girls and other things you’ve seen a hundred times before are the best Ouija has to offer.

The one minute a Ouija Board is used in Paranormal Activity is scarier than Ouija’s entire 90-minute runtime. Ouija, would you? I wouldn’t.

Review by Erik Samdahl unless otherwise indicated.
