Pitch Perfect 3 Movie Review
Review by Jeff Webb (B-)
I am an unabashed fan of Pitch Perfect - Kay Cannon found her Liz Lemon v2 in Anna Kendrick and the ensemble cast pulls out a "sports underdog" story with great song mixing and choreography.
Pitch Perfect 2 is a good sequel - focusing on the two stars (Kendrick and Rebel Wilson) but getting a little absurd in the middle.
Pitch Perfect 3 rounds out the trilogy nicely, opting for romcom storyline over outrageous, laugh-out-loud jokes. The humor, as with Pitch Perfect 2, is in making fun of itself (the Riff Off, Jessica / Ashley, etc). The focus, as well, is on Kendrick and Wilson, but the subplots are harmless and wrap up Aubrey's (Anna Camp) story nicely.
I was underwhelmed by most of the music / choreography, but that's made up for with the final rendition of Britney Spear's Toxic. Overall, Pitch Perfect 3 is enjoyable, but not nearly as re-watchable as the original.
