A young Paris waitress returns a set of family heirlooms that she finds in her apartment to its rightful owner and she watches from a distance as the man's life is transformed. From then on, she decides to help her other neighbors, always anonymously, but when she meets a young, attractive man, she has to gather up the courage to help herself.

Few foreign films make it to nationwide release in the United States, but when they do, it says something about the quality of the film. Amelie is no exception, and can easily be considered as one of the best movies of the year.
