Gattaca Movie Synopsis & Plot
In the future, a person's destiny does not depend on what they worked for; their selection in the human race is chosen before birth. Every detail, from appearances to behavior can be genetically altered to the parent's wishes; from the moment their cells are changed, that being's life is set.
But what if one child was conceived not for perfection but for love. He was merely a normal child, conceived between two young lovers, his life based on chance. However, even his life would be told from the start...
Vincent Freeman is a so-called "In-Valid." Life expectancy lower, strength and mind inferior, he is designated to an underworld, a place where no one can break free of. His dreams- that of flying through space- cannot become true because he does not have the right kind of blood. But what if there was a way to elude the scientists and the machines? A way to change your DNA and your looks? A way to become someone else...?
Jerome Morrow is his name and he is an elite engineer in Gattaca, the operations base for space missions. He is one of the best in his class- he has been for the last three years-and is respected among the field of scientists. But with one eyelash, one eyelash left at the scene of a murder he didn't commit, everything could shatter. The truth is out there and it's only a matter of time before they figure out who Jerome Morrow is... Only a matter of time before they figure out he's someone else.
MOVIE REVIEW
Don't expect action, don't expect drama, and don't expect too much romance because Gattaca doesn't have a large quantity of those categories. It doesn't really have much plot either but Gattaca turns out to be a rather enjoyable film. Basically, the whole movie deals with Vincent's elusion of genetic perfection and what he does to keep the police and his boss from figuring out his true identity. Gatacca is pretty well done with good acting and dialogue, though, after a while, expecting action to pick up, it begins to lag. However, by the time the movie is done, it turns out that those "boring" scenes are not really boring; that's how the movie is. It is a sci-fi mystery, not a sci-fi action flick. Besides the return of his brother (you'll have to see the movie to learn what I'm talking about), which is sort of hoaky, Gattaca gets a good rating in my book.Read our Gattaca movie review »
