Based on the novel by Tracy Chevalier and painting by Johannes Vermeer, this is the story of a girl who is forced to become the housemaid of a master painter and ends up becoming intimate with him, even though it may tear his family apart.

MOVIE REVIEW

Scarlett Johansson dazzled audiences in Lost in Translation, but it was for Girl with a Pearl Earring that she received her first Golden Globe nomination. It is hard to figure out why. She hardly speaks and the rest of the movie is uninspiring.
