Inspector Gadget Movie Synopsis & Plot
It's a comedy with a thousand moving parts! Wowser-it's Walt Disney Pictures' live-action family film, "Inspector Gadget."
Based on the popular cartoon character of the same name, "Inspector Gadget" is a wild and quirky adventure comedy about a somewhat naive and inept security guard, John Brown (MATTHEW BRODERICK), whose big heart is equal to his far-fetched dreams of becoming the world's greatest police officer. However, nothing is impossible. Suddenly, unexpected circumstances make him the ideal candidate for a top secret law enforcement project, and pretty scientist Dr. Brenda Bradford (JOELY FISHER) applies her expertise in robotics to build him into a man of many talents-and accessories.
Using a vast array of grafted-on gizmos and doohickies to bust bad guys, the often clueless Inspector Gadget must also employ all his common sense to crack an especially complicated case. As he penetrates Riverton City's darkest underworld, Inspector Gadget must save not only his good name and reputation, but also rescue the world from the nefarious Claw (RUPERT EVERETT), in Walt Disney Pictures' live-action comedy "Inspector Gadget."
Despite his failure to get accepted into the police academy, John Brown is determined to follow his dream of fighting crime. His job as a security officer at the Bradford Research facility hasn't contributed much to his crime-fighting skills. Then one fateful night the rich, handsome and insanely evil Sanford Scolex sends an armored van full of criminally programmed robots bursting through the gates of the research facility. Scolex wants to steal scientist Artemus Bradford's valuable research on robotics, namely a foot, so he can become the richest man in the world. When John discovers that Artemus has been murdered during the robbery, he jumps in his Chevette and takes chase. But the perpetrators are too quick for John. Just as John is about to make a citizen's arrest, Scolex blows up the Chevette leaving John for dead.
With John in the hospital and barely clinging to life, his only chance for survival is Artemus Bradford's beautiful scientist daughter, Brenda. Artemus and Brenda had been working with the local police on an experimental program to develop a bionic police officer. Completely broken and in a cast from head to toe, John looks like the perfect guinea pig. During the experimental operation Brenda implants 14,000 useful and handy devices all over John's body. When John Brown awakens he is "Inspector Gadget" ยท a 21st century human crime fighting machine.
