Wag the Dog Movie Synopsis & Plot
With the election in two weeks, a woman comes forth proclaiming that the President made sexual advances on her. In what could be crippling to his campaign, the President needs something to draw the people's attention away from the scandal. Like a war.
The Presidential spin doctor Conrad Brean immediately came up with a plan: to make a war. Perhaps Albania gained position of nuclear weapons... Or terrorists are attacking Americans...
Either way, he needs the help of big time Hollywood director and producer Stanley Motss to make the war a reality. Motss, a little eccentric in his own right, immediately comes up with a whole storyline, which is a little too extensive for what Brean wants. But after a little brainstorming, they come up with a simple but startling plot... Albanian terrorists have brought a nuclear weapon into Canada and are planning to smuggle it into the US. Also, in Albania itself, the terrorists are wreaking havoc on small villages.
With the help of real actors, actresses, and state-of-the-art special effects, Brean and Motss must carry the story until after the election, and make sure it finishes off without any doubt of the reality of it. But what if Motss wants credit for the masterpiece? And what if the CIA gets suspicious? And what if their chosen war hero is actually a psychotic rapist?
MOVIE REVIEW
Before it happened in real life, it happened in Wag the Dog. Hopefully, though, Wag the Dog was a little more farfetched than the Clinton sex scandal. Wag the Dog is crazy: they manage to elude the public, news media, and even the CIA and fake a war in Albania. They create a war hero and then kill him off. And they manage to keep dozens of people from telling the truth.Read our Wag the Dog movie review »
